I am a 27 + year law enforcement veteran - the last 21 years as a gambling agent w/the MT Dept of Justice Gambling Investigation Bureau. I provide training / instruction on gambling matters, particularly Organized Sports Bookmaking. I conduct workshops, do speaking engagements and like to make these things as much fun as possible while providing the best training available.

I am retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety where I was a Senior Police Communications Operator for 25 years. I specialize in instructing classes on transient criminal activity, a form of non-traditional organized crime, particularly Criminal Traveler Activity and its devastating effect on the elderly population. I am a TCLEOSE certified instructor in Texas and a POST certified instructor in the state of California.

I am a retired police chief (x2) and sheriff (3 terms). In 1998 I founded the Police Dynamics Institute to provide character-based leadership training which I have done on an international basis. I am now serving in Afghanistan as the Professional Mentor to the Chief of Training for the Afghan National Police.

I recently set up a blog site to serve as a resource for Police Dynamics Training. You can view a bunch of my training videos there...

LEO's NOT wearing body armor. In my agency, we issue it to all sworn personnel, but policy has it mandatory on night shift and only optional on dayshift. Yes, we're south Florida and its hot here but the altenative is obvious to this group. While a bit more than 60% of my 50 patrol personnel do wear them, the remaining are not and give the usual wide range of excuses "Its on the seat next to me, its wet/smelly so I'm airing it out, etc, etc. And its mixed, newer and older deputies. I've tried to remedy this by cajoling, imploring, preaching what could happen if they don't wear it but its only works for a few. Many remain complacent and still not wearing them. Admin doesn't seem interested in making a change in police either. Would sure like to hear ideas/thoughts from anyone experienced in the same issue.

I've been a Reserve Officer for 31 years ans a Lt for 10+ yrs with Fla Fish & Wildlife (was Fla Game & Fish Commission). I can truthfully say I am proud of the agency and how the Reserve Program has developed. We were just "Gate Openers" for about the 1st 5 years and couldn't be armed, make arrests or investigate crimes. Now we are considered "force multipliers" and augment patrol the wilderness and cities with well trained and proficient force of State Law Enforcement Officers.  We train along side of the men and women we work with and the Agency is trying to issue as much equipment and uniforms as their budget can afford.  We recently began issuing duty pistols (G21SF 45ACP) to Reservists.  We've come a long way but still have to push for improvement in communications and responsibilities.  I'm a Firearm, CPR and Radio Communications Instructor...and not paid a dime.  I truly believe in the job and take my responsibility to heart.  I want to go home at night (or in the morning) and I want to train my brothers-in-arms to be able to do the same.  Failure is not an option.
