DanT,

Just checked the course book to make sure I was correct in my statements. The DT instructor program is only five days. Just to clarify... To become a DT Unit Instructor (Basic Academy) in the Buckeye State requires you go through the two week Instructional Skills program and the one week DT Instructor course.
There are no standards for in-service DT instructors (the only in-service training required is the Requal Officer for firearms which is a one day Requal course and an instructor course for every weapon you want to certify in (London does a two week - semi-auto, revolver and shotgun but I would go up to the Richfield campus...MUCH better instructors IMnotsoHO).

So they have expanded it..That's good to know..I trained at Richfield a few time and liked it as it was closer to home than London..I did the Instructor Skills update when Northcoast Polytech was at the SEALE Academy here in Bedford.

Is there anybody out there teaching tactics for confined spaces, i.e. ships? We are starting a package and looking to see what everybody if anybody else is doing anything?

If you can get a contact to the Navy Seals they do that type of ship training.

Thanks, we do the training ourselves but was wondering if there were any civilian LE DT programs out there! Or if any teams even worry about that type of scenario?

Brian Foy,
I have never heard of any program that addresses DT in a confined spaces. DT in a confined space . It should not be over looked and SHOULD be a concern for any team.At our school we experiment. We recently started with tactics from a seated positon. As far as civilian DT programs go, many of the instructors I have met have seperate programs for LEO's that is not shared with civilians.

This link is to a 9th Circuit decision that came down March 26, 2010, in which the court found that Seattle officers should have been granted Qualified Immunity. In the case the Court states that shocking plaintiff with a Taser in drive-stun three times was not excessive force.

There are several other issues discussed in this case that the court comments about; including plaintiff resisting & delaying an officer and refusing to sign a citation.

@DanT. I think Phil Messina of Modern Warrior teaches a program of confined spaces. Also a couple of the Krav Maga organizations do also. I'd also check with John Benner at TDI in southern Ohio.

Thanks for all the info, we have been testing and working different scenarios so we can incorporate them into our package.
